Here at Bell Road Toyota, we've noticed how popular
crossovers and SUVs have gotten in recent years. Fortunately for you, the
Toyota brand offers a ton of new Toyota vehicles
that crossover and SUV buyers will love. There's the compact and capable 2019
Toyota RAV4, the rugged 2019 Toyota 4Runner, the spacious 2019 Toyota
Highlander, and more. Now the Toyota brand is getting ready to offer another
option, a new SUV built right here in the United States.
The new
Toyota SUV will be manufactured at a new $1.6 billion plant in Huntsville,
Alabama. This plant will create around 4,000 new jobs and could produce up to
300,000 vehicles per year. Originally, the Toyota brand was going to move some
Toyota Corolla production there, but it seems as if someone changed their mind.
Instead that sedan will continue to be built in Mississippi.
This new SUV is being built in response to market forces.
Demand for SUVs just keeps rising, and although the Toyota brand already boasts
a varied lineup it can't hurt to add another and potentially attract some new
drivers. This new vehicle would be one of twelve new or redesigned models that
the automaker has pledged to build over three years and will likely be built on
the TNGA-C platform, currently used by models like the 2019 Toyota C-HR and the
2019 Toyota Prius.
That could mean that this new SUV is on the smaller side.
Other rumors indicate that it will be an off-road model, a small vehicle that
complements the front-wheel drive Toyota C-HR in our lineup. This new SUV could
take some cues from the FT-4X Concept, a rugged, boxy model that made its debut
at the 2017 New York Auto Show. In any case, we'll learn more about this new
Toyota vehicle as its production date in 2021 gets closer.
