At Bell Road Toyota, we're always on the lookout for the
latest news about new
Toyota vehicles. One thing that some local drivers here in Phoenix have
been asking about lately is green car technology. Are there more hybrid or
electric Toyota models coming out soon? Well, we're happy to report that a
hybrid version of one of our most popular cars is in the works.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla is officially getting the hybrid
treatment. This green model made its debut at this year's Los Angeles Auto
Show, showing off a new powertrain and a next-generation version of the brand's
“Hybrid Synergy Drive.” This system, already found in the Toyota Prius, uses an
efficient 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors to provide
power. This powertrain is paired to a
continuously variable transmission that keeps the driving experience smooth.
The Toyota
Corolla Hybrid will offer a few different driving modes. An all-electric
mode, where power is derived solely from the battery, is an obvious inclusion.
“Normal” mode lets the car decide the best way to deliver a balance of
acceleration and efficiency. “Eco” mode focuses more on fuel economy, while
“Sport” mode offers a more thrilling driving experience and a small hit to fuel
economy numbers. Speaking of efficiency, the Toyota brand is hoping that this
model will offer a combined fuel economy numbers of at least fifty miles per
gallon. Add in the tech and safety features you know and love from the
conventional Toyota Corolla model, and you have one impressive green car on
your hands.
