Toyota Vehicles Among Longest-Lasting

A recent article on financial website TheStreet recently caught the attention of the Bell Road Toyota staff. The recession may be over, but certain habits die hard. Drivers around Phoenix, like Americans in general, are still hanging onto their older cars. TheStreet’s analysis went a bit further: they crunched the numbers on the longest-owned vehicles, and within that cohort they identified the nine longest-owned cars and SUVs. The average car, they found, has been on the road for 11.6 years, with growth in the five-year-old category expected to grow 16% by 2021.

Economics is a big driver of that trend, but not the only one. It’s further helped by the fact that vehicle quality is improved overall. Of the nine vehicles TheStreet highlighted, four were Toyota models:

•    Toyota Sequoia

•    Toyota Land Cruiser

What can we conclude from this? If you already own a Toyota model, you’re in luck; they’re reliable, and built to last for years. New car buyers benefit because there’s an ongoing arms race of sorts among car companies to include more and more great features to lure people away from their old vehicles, and Toyota models really stand out in that regard.
